Some people think insurance is not important, because what are the odds of getting into a catastrophic accident? I can’t tell you what the chances are but there’s always a probability and you don’t want to be left with a huge hospital bill with no insurance if it happens to you.
So, a perk of being employed is you can participate in group benefits and the employer most likely covers some or all of the bill. Here are a few types of group benefits you may want to opt into:
Disability insurance, which protects your income, as a young professional this is thee most important insurance. While this insurance may not fully replace all of your income for the long term, it will cover a certain percentage if you have a long term illness and cannot work.
Life insurance. You will want to opt into this insurance to leave funds for your dependents or family members. Sometimes your employer will cover the first $50,000 however, you can buy additional coverage but that bill is on you.
If you are a parent to a four legged child, look into pet insurance, because your fur babies need a safety net too. Not many companies offer this, but it’s worth asking yours if they do because who doesn’t want coverage for their little one?
Lastly, health insurance. This is a more common one, and it is super important to understand your own health considerations to make sure you are selecting the right type of coverage.
Get all the workplace insurance you need, because you deserve it and why not?
