Estate planners help you get your estate documents together so your assets go to the right people and places when you pass away.
For something so important, you don’t want to choose just any estate attorney, and that’s why you should keep listening to my tips on how to find one…
First, qualifications matter: Choose an attorney who is board certified in estate planning.
Next, ask for a referral: Word of mouth will always be the jam, so ask someone you know if they know an estate attorney. If this doesn’t help, you can search the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils.
Last, ensure you use an estate attorney who is licensed in your state because they’re likely to draft an estate plan based on the state laws they’re familiar with, and a lawyer based in your state will be familiar with your specific state laws – and let me tell you each state is different.
Don’t let not knowing how to find an estate planner keep you from putting documents and clarity together for your family. An estate plan is a grand gesture your loved ones will thank you for later.
